I’m on a Boat!

Greetings Milwaukee!

Do you hear that?  Seagulls, waves crashing, Lonely Island?  It must be time for a boat ride!

In my travels around Milwaukee, I have encountered no short supply of picturesque views of the city.  Some of the best have not been from the lofty heights of one of our skyscrapers, but from along our rivers.  On a recent sunny weekend day, I decided to check out one of our boat tour companies for an afternoon of nautical fun.  Milwaukee Boat Line features a slew of different options, from history and architecture tours to happy hours to school field trips.  They also offer seasonal tours in summer such as a gothic haunted river tour and dance parties.  I opted for the history and architecture tour, which provides a glimpse of Milwaukee’s past and present while cruising through our rivers and harbor, complete with live narration from one of their knowledgeable tour guides.  This being Milwaukee and all, not only are there food packages available, but the boats also feature a fully stocked bar, naturally.

I must also give credit to Milwaukee Boat Line, as they have the most accessible boat tours in Milwaukee.  When booking, call ahead of time just to make sure they have an accessible boat ready.  Boats are accessed at Clybourn St. via the Riverwalk (there is an elaborate ramp down from street level), and a portable ramp provided a seamless boarding onto the enclosed main deck.  While the top deck was not accessible, I was able to get around the entire length of the boat on the main deck.
